On Saturday January 11th we descended on Cork city and surrounding areas for our yearly Street Collection. As every year the collection is organised by Don Murphy. The weather gods were smiling on us. The morning started of cold and crisp but turned into a lovely winters days. We had people collecting in St. Patrick Street, Wilton, Blackpool, Douglas and Bishopstown shopping centres. As the people of cork come out in to the busy areas of the city their generosity was not far behind them. Everyone we met gave what they could afford and I’m sure in some circumstances they gave more.
Every donation was followed with an apology of not being able to give more. We were grateful to receive any donation. We met plenty of people and characters who wished us well and entertained us through out the day. The dogs as usual took centre stage. We had people returning with food for the dogs and prayers for the handlers. The kids of Cork took it upon themselves to visit as many dogs as possible and carried out the full range of questions about the dogs. Was great to see their interest.
Later that evening our very own SARDA member Peter Desmond had organised a Pub Quiz in Redmond’s GAA Club, to assist with further fund raising. The night was hosted by Quiz Master Jason Cassells . It was a great night enjoyed by all. We would like to thank everyone who took part and for the funds raised.
A special thanks Peter Desmond and Don Murphy (SARDA) and to Jason Cassells and the staff of Redmond’s GAA Club and most importantly, The People of Cork. All money received will go towards training and equipment
