Bernie Halsey

Hi, my name is Bernie, seen here ‘bodying’  for Marie-Jo’s dog Louis.  I am a healthcare assistant and I also work at an animal sanctuary.  Originally from the UK, I spent most of my adult life living in ‘sunny’ Spain, where I discovered my love of the mountains and became a dedicated hill-walker and rock-climber.  I joined SARDA in 2007 and have been bodying ‘whatever the weather’ since then.  I enjoy working with the younger dogs the most, as you get a real sense of joy seeing them progress step by step.

I have 3 dogs of my own but unfortunately their temperaments are not suitable for training, so for the moment I am happy to concentrate on my own training before I get a pup, as I realise what a huge commitment it is to take on a dog for search and rescue training.

Recently I became Equipment Officer, a post that I am proud to undertake and hope to do justice.  I am very happy to have joined SARDA, and have never met such a kind, warm and welcoming group, and I look forward to many more “rainy” days together!
