National training weekend in Wicklow. Saturday started dry but cold and as the day progressed we had snow and wind to contend with. Two of our handlers, Michael Grant and Louise Burgoyne, were being pre-assessed, so large hill areas were set up for them. Both acquitted themselves well considering the challenging conditions. Meanwhile, the younger dogs worked in the Brockagh area at the lead mines near Glendalough. On Sunday, we used areas around our accommodation and trained for lowland conditions. All dogs are progressing well, and we look forward to the next crop of search dogs coming on stream in the near future. Many thanks to all the volunteer dogsbodies without whom it would be impossible to train our dogs. Thanks also to our training officer Gerry Tobin and local organiser Sheelagh O’Malley.
